This is the Thanksgiving Season and for those who know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, there is plenty to be thankful for. There is a biblical principle telling us that we enter into the gates of access to God by thanksgiving. (Psalm 100:4) This was demonstrated by Jesus in Matthew 14:19- And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. When Jesus gave thanks for what was not enough, the gates of provision were opened, and God blessed them with more than enough.
We also see in Luke 17 that Jesus healed ten men of leprosy. Verse 15 says, “One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him – and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, “were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” It appears that Jesus was disappointed that only one person took the time to return and give thanks and praise to God for what was done for him. He was pleased and took special note of the one who returned giving thanks for what the Lord had done.
I encourage you to begin each day and every prayer time with words and a heart of thankfulness. I usually begin my daily prayer time by thanking God for my salvation. Thanking Him for the blood of the Lamb. Thanking Him for the indwelling Holy Spirit.
