I Peter 2 speaks of “pure spiritual milk” and tells believers that they should crave it. This milk is revealed to us in Hebrews 6:1-2. It includes repentance from acts that lead to death, faith in God, baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. What all of these have in common is they include coming out of what is impure and into what it pure.
In repentance we are changing our mind about what is evil, what is of the flesh, those things that lead to death and we are turning from them. We then move into the purity that is found in that which brings life. In the realm of faith in God, we are leaving the realm of having faith in ourselves, in world systems, in the temporal things of this age. By doing this we are coming into the pure devotion to God that is known as pure and untainted faith.
Baptism signifies dying to our flesh and coming alive to the Spirit. Baptism speaks of coming out of a place of impurity and into a place of purity.
When we lay hands on someone we are sanctifying them to be used for a holy and noble purpose. It is being set apart for God’s use and is also an act of imparting a spiritual gift into someone. The laying on of hands is also used in connection with prayer for those who are sick, oppressed, or possessed. It is the removing of something that is impure to receive what is pure.
The resurrection of the dead is a spiritual event when the body of corruption will take on incorruption. We will be transformed from mortality to immortality. From an inferior body of flesh to a spiritual body that is superior in every way.
Eternal judgment has to do with standing before God so we can come into complete agreement with what He knows and says about us. This will be a pure judgment because it comes from God, not from another man or us.
Through salvation that comes by Jesus Christ we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good. It is now time to crave and pursue the pure spiritual milk of God so that we may continue to grow and develop into all that God has ordained us to be. Let the purity of God be your portion in 2024 and continue to grow in the realm of the Spirit. By this we will bear much fruit in the year ahead.
